It seems that most SATA drives are lockable, but always check the <a href=\"http:\/\/xboxdrives.x-pec.com\/?p=list\">compatibility lists<\/a>\u00a0before going too crazy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Items Needed:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediafire.com\/file\/co6qbd8czuq3epd\/xboxhdm23usb-linux.tar.gz\">xboxhdm23usb-linux<\/a> (This is the same as JCRocky5&#8217;s &#8220;beta3&#8221; version, I&#8217;ve just stripped out everything related to windows, and included the patched smartctl for linux.)<\/li>\n<li>C Drive files. Whether <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Rocky5\/Xbox-Softmodding-Tool\/tree\/master\/Installer%20Variants\/XBHDM%20Build\">JCRocky5&#8217;s XboxHDM Build<\/a>, your own backup, or a <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Rocky5\/Xbox-Softmodding-Tool\/raw\/master\/Extras%20Disc\/Softmod\/dashboards\/msdash\/retail\/5960.zip\">retail MS Dash<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"lang:default decode:true crayon-inline\">qemu-system-i386<\/span>\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/packages.debian.org\/search?searchon=contents&amp;keywords=qemu-system-i386\">Debian<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archlinux.org\/packages\/extra\/x86_64\/qemu-arch-extra\/\">Arch<\/a>) Check your package manager<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>Place eeprom.bin inside the same folder as the `XboxHD` and `HDD_files` folders.<\/li>\n<li>Decide what files you want to be written to the new disks C drive, and place those inside `HDD_files\/C\/`<\/li>\n<li>Enter the `XboxHD` directory.<\/li>\n<li>Find what label the Xbox hard drive was given by your system\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">fdisk -l<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Check for lock status on the drive (Make sure to change all instances of <span class=\"lang:default decode:true crayon-inline \">\/dev\/sdX<\/span>\u00a0 to match whatever disk you are working with. eg <span class=\"lang:default decode:true crayon-inline \">\/dev\/sdc<\/span>\u00a0)\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">.\/smartctl -g security \/dev\/sdX<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Unlock the disk drive if required\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">.\/smartctl -s security-eeprom-unlock,..\/eeprom.bin \/dev\/sdX\r\n.\/smartctl -s security-eeprom-disable,..\/eeprom.bin \/dev\/sdX<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Boot xboxhdm with qemu. The disk that is being created must be passed through as <span class=\"lang:default decode:true crayon-inline \">\/dev\/hda<\/span>\u00a0 as XboxHDM only works with IDE devices and only checks <span class=\"lang:default decode:true crayon-inline \">\/dev\/hda<\/span>\u00a0 for the HDD. The XboxHDM distro will boot from the files passed through as <span class=\"lang:default decode:true crayon-inline\">\/dev\/hdb<\/span>.\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">qemu-system-i386 -kernel kernel -initrd initrd.gz -hdb fat:rw:..\/HDD_files\/ -hda \/dev\/sdX -append \"load_ramdisk=1 prompt_ramdisk=0 ramdisk_size=24000 rw root=\/dev\/ram pci=biosirq vga=0x317\"<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Use XboxHDM to create new hard drive<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/gfycat.com\/ifr\/ClosedUnacceptableAllosaurus\" width=\"640\" height=\"498\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/li>\n<li>After you are finished creating the hard drive, shutdown qemu\/xboxhdm and lock the drive with the eeprom\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">.\/smartctl -s security-eeprom-setpass,..\/eeprom.bin \/dev\/sdX<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Put the hard drive back in the Xbox and see if it boots!
